Gathering Merlot

We conclude our 2020 harvest season with Gathering Merlot, a blended barrel-aged sour with merlot grapes sourced from Viviano Vineyards in Long Island. Using carbonic maceration — a historical wine-making technique associated with wines from Beaujolais and Rioja — we fermented whole, intact clusters of merlot grapes in our oak foeder before blending with barrels of some of our finest aged beer. The result is a lush, fruit-forward sour ale–big, juicy flavor with a rounded acidity and soft tannic finish.
