Barleywine aged in a single Madeira Barrel
Aged in Madeira casks for almost two years, this barleywine is brewed with Maris Otter Malt and East Kent Goldings. With two separate mashes and an all-day extended boil to develop deep Maillard flavors, we managed to hit 32 Plato with no added simple sugars. This traditional ale is so sticky and rich that it glugs from the bottle like motor oil. It pours a deep mahogany color with barely perceptible carbonation. The flavor is dense with notes of honeycomb, lilac, fig, prune, toffee, caramel, toasted bread, orange spice, vanilla-tinged oak, and autumn leaves. You will take your sweet time reaching the bottom of the glass, letting it warm as it reveals layers and layers of goodness.
