ABOUT GRIMM
Grimm is a 100% family-owned brewery based in Brooklyn, New York. We’ve been named New York State Brewery of the Year by our state brewer’s association in 2021, 2022, 2024, 2025, and 2026. We got there by caring deeply about the details and holding ourselves to a higher standard of execution than the situation strictly requires. That philosophy runs through everything we do.
Under the Grimm umbrella, we also operate Physica Wines (low-intervention, whole cluster natural wines from North Fork grapes) and Lala’s Brooklyn Apizza (creative, New Haven-inspired, fermentation-driven sourdough pizza). Grimm Tavern is our newest venture: a full-service restaurant in Prospect Heights serving refined tavern food alongside our beers and wines. Next door, Grimm Goods is a small cafe offering coffee, prepared foods, breakfast sandwiches, biscuits, muffulettas, and canned beer to go.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a Dishwasher to join the team at Grimm Tavern. You are the backbone of this kitchen. Without clean plates, clean pots, and a clean floor, nothing else works — not the line cooks, not the servers, not the guests. We know that, and we mean it. The dish position here is a real job, not a stepping stone we pretend to respect.
You’ll work closely with the kitchen team to keep service moving and the kitchen running at the standard we hold ourselves to. If you want to grow into a prep or line cook role, there’s room to grow here — we’d rather develop people from within than keep hiring from outside. The best way to understand a kitchen is to know its bones.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Run the dish station from open to close. Wash, sanitize, and organize all plates, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, sheet trays, and kitchen equipment throughout service.
- Keep the dish pit organized and efficient. Don’t let it pile up. Anticipate what the line needs before they need to ask.
- Return clean dishes, cookware, and utensils to their proper places promptly — the line can’t function without them.
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the kitchen: sweep and mop floors, wipe down surfaces, empty trash and recycling.
- Receive and break down deliveries when needed.
- Help with basic prep tasks as time allows and as directed by the chef.
- Maintain full compliance with NYC Department of Health regulations. Clean as you go.
- Show up on time, in clean uniform, ready to work.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Prior dish or kitchen experience is a plus, but not required. We’ll train you.
- You can keep up. Fast-paced service doesn’t shake you.
- You work clean and work organized. Your station tells us everything we need to know — chaos at the dish pit spreads to the whole kitchen.
- Reliable, on time, and ready to put in real work. The team depends on you showing up.
- You take direction well and communicate clearly when you need something.
- You take pride in the work, even when — especially when — no one’s watching.
- NYC Food Protection Certificate (Food Handler’s License) preferred — we’ll help you get it if you don’t have one.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a fast-paced kitchen in a brand-new restaurant. You’ll be helping build systems and culture from day one, which is both the challenge and the opportunity. We prioritize a fair scheduling system for weekends and holidays to share the load equitably among the leadership team. We care about sustainability—of our ingredients, our business, and our people.
BENEFITS
- Competitive compensation $19-20/hour
- Family meals every shift
- Discounts across all Grimm properties (brewery, restaurant, wines, Lala’s)
- Paid time off, excellent shift meals, and a chance for career growth in an expanding company.
SCHEDULE
Includes days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed to support business. We believe in a work and life balance and making schedule reflect this whenever possible.
