The Host’s primary responsibility will be to greet guests as they enter Lala’s and check them in for their reservation. To do well in this role you should be comfortable standing for long periods and managing a very busy shift.
Candidates for the position of Host display an innate sense of hustle, the ability to anticipate needs, a proactive attitude, and a perceptive awareness of people and the environment. Please note that this is a general outline of duties, responsibilities & expectations.
Essential Duties For A Host:
- Greeting guests as they enter, and putting them on a waiting list as necessary.
- Providing guests with menus and answering any initial questions.
- Seating guests at designated tables or in waiting areas.
- Obtain and maintain a working knowledge of all food menus including catering/event menus
- Engaging with guests to ensure they’re happy with food and service.
- Keep station clean and organized
- Communicate effectively and courteously with guests, and co-workers.
- Stay in communication with General Manager, Assistant Manager and Bar staff
- Assist in clearing and wiping down tables.
- Perform calmly and effectively under stressful conditions.
- Promote an atmosphere of teamwork by assisting co-workers.
- Assist in setting up and resetting the restaurant before and after service and between seatings.
Requirements:
- 1+ years experience working in fast paced bars and/or restaurants
- Ability to provide top-notch customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- A strong work ethic and sense of urgency; the ability to multitask, prioritize competing tasks, and work independently, while excelling in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to work with management–to listen, learn, and effectively communicate your questions and concerns
- Able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food when necessary.
- Willing to follow instructions and ask questions for clarification if needed.
- Able to handle money accurately, operate a point-of-sale system, and digital reservation platform.
- Experience with Toast, Resy, or Tripleseat a plus.
- Must be punctual, self-motivated, and employ effective time management skills (in relation to shifts, staff meetings, special events)
- Professional personal appearance: keeping good hygiene and grooming; and wearing clean, smart work clothes.
- Ability to problem-solve and work through challenges while remaining calm, flexible and upbeat
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and nonverbal)
- Fun, friendly, attitude with Grimm staff, Lala’s kitchen, management, and guests
- Honest and professional demeanor
- Ability to continuously stand, walk, lift and handle 20lbs; frequently bend, walk up and down stairs, reach, and push; and work in confined spaces and close quarters with others
- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, variable temperature environment.
- Flexibility in both schedule and duties; willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Compensation:
- $18-$20/hr
